Accepting Gods Will In Your Life
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

As christians we know that God’s plans are better then our own plans but accepting his will is not easy. We want to serve and please God but at the same time we want to have control of our own lives. That doesn’t mean we can’t have goals and pursue our passions but we have to pursue God first and ask God to align our dreams and goals with his purpose in our lives.

If you are having trouble accepting God’s will in your life here are some ways that will help you take that leap of faith and tell God “Lord let your will be done”.

Trust God

It is not easy to trust in God especially if we are going through a difficult situation. We quickly want to find a solution and often times we don’t ask God for His direction but we are called to trust him whole heartedly no matter what we are going through because God’s plans for us are perfect.

I wrote a post about trusting God in times of uncertainty that you can find here. There are so many examples in the bible about men and women that trusted God when the situation in their lives was so difficult but God used those situations to glorify himself and bring a solution to their problems.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3: 5,6

Tell God All Your Worries

God is all knowing but he wants an intimate relationship with you where you go to him in prayer and lay down before him all of your worries and your needs.

You don’t need to be eloquent and use fancy words all you need to have is an honest heart with God and he is there to hear you.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:12

Talk To Others

It is good to talk to someone that you know will listen and maybe has been in the same situation you have. That person might be able to give you godly advice and help you pray to help you accept God’s will in your life. I think we can all use extra prayer from others.

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice. Proverbs 27:9

Surrender To God

You must surrender your will to God so that he may do His will in you. You also have to surrender all of your fear, anxiety, stubbornness and anything that is keeping God from doing his will in your life. When you do that you are giving God a burden that is to heavy for you and was not meant for you to carry.

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. Psalms 55:22

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. Matthew 16: 24, 25

Be Patient

Patience is a virtue but not an easy one. When you surrender to God and start to accept His will in your life you are going to need to ask God for lots of patience. The bible says that if we ask we will receive it. You have to constantly, through prayer, ask for God’s virtues in your life and ask him to give you the patience that you need.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matthew 7: 7,8

God plans for you are always going to be for good and far greater than anything you can accomplish on your own. God is a gentleman and he does not force his will on anyone, you must willingly let him in and let him take control of your life. When you do that you will see all the great things he can do in your life and how you can be a blessing to others as well.
